Amylooligosaccharides from Mycobacterium smegmatis.
نویسندگان
چکیده
In early stationary phase of growth, Mycobacterium smegmatis cultures accumulate amylooligosaccharides (alpha 1 leads to 4-glucooligosaccharides) up to the undecasaccharide. Although M. smegmatis also makes an acylated polymethylpolysaccharide that is predominantly and alpha 1 leads to 4-glucan, we conclude that these oligosaccharides are precursors of glycogen rather than lopopolysaccharide.

MICROBIAL TRANSFORMATION OF CHOLESTEROL BY MYCOBACTERIUM SMEGMATIS
Mycobacterium smegmatis PTCC 1307 (CIP 73.26) was used as a microbial agent to produce androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione (ADD) and androst-4-ene-3,17-dione, two useful precursors in the synthesis of steroid drugs. The side chain of cholesterol, as the substrate, was selectively cleaved in the presence of five enzyme inhibitors. An intermediate structure with intact side chain, cholest-4-ene-3-one, ...
متن کاملAntimycobacterial activity of fruit of Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC against Mycobacterium smegmatis
Objective: Fruits of lemon pepper (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC., Rutaceae) have been traditionally used as a spice and in folk medicine for treatment of diarrhea and stomachache. Stomachache could be associated with mycobacterial infection. The present study was designed to investigate the activity of Z. acanthopodium fruits against a non-infectious Mycobacterium smegmatis and to identify the ...
متن کاملAntibacterial activity of two biflavonoids from Garcinia livingstonei leaves against Mycobacterium smegmatis.
Amentoflavone and 4' monomethoxy amentoflavone were previously isolated from Garcinia livingstonei leaves. These compounds had good activities (MIC 6 and 8 μg/ml) against some nosocomial bacteria. In this study, the activity of these purified compounds were tested against fast-growing non-pathogenic Mycobacterium smegmatis. Amentoflavone was the most active compound, with an MIC of 0.60 ± 0.70 ...
متن کاملProtection of Mycobacterium smegmatis from Ethambutol and Streptomycin Inhibition by MgSO(4) and Polyamines.
Polyamines protected Mycobacterium smegmatis from ethambutol inhibition but not from streptomycin inhibition, whereas MgSO(4) neutralized growth inhibition by both drugs.
متن کاملPathogenicity of Mycobacterium fortuitum and Mycobacterium smegmatis to goldfish, Carassius auratus.
Despite the ubiquitous presence of atypical mycobacteria in the environment and the potential risk of infection in humans and animals, the pathogenesis of diseases caused by infection with atypical mycobacteria has been poorly characterized. In this study, goldfish, Carassius auratus were infected either with the rapidly growing fish pathogen, Mycobacterium fortuitum or with another rapidly gro...
